Una fuente conveniente de gas es el di\u00f3xido de carbono, generado a partir de la reacci\u00f3n de un grupo isocianato con agua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Figura I \u2013 Reacci\u00f3n qu\u00edmica entre amina e isocianato generando CO2 para la expansi\u00f3n de espuma<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El producto intermedio de esta reacci\u00f3n es un \u00e1cido carb\u00e1mico, que se descompone espont\u00e1neamente en una amina y di\u00f3xido de carbono. La difusi\u00f3n del CO2 en burbujas previamente nucleadas en el medio reactivo causa la expansi\u00f3n y formaci\u00f3n de espuma. Una reacci\u00f3n adicional entre la amina y m\u00e1s isocianato genera una urea disustituida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Las aminas son bases org\u00e1nicas formadas al sustituir uno, dos o tres \u00e1tomos de hidr\u00f3geno del amon\u00edaco (NH3) por cadenas de carbono.
